So, a few weeks ago, I journeyed to the beautiful and hilly city of Atlanta, GA to join with over 1000 walkers, crew and staff to bring attention to the battle to find a cure for breast cancer. About 800 of us walked 60 hilly miles in and around Atlanta, raising spirits, supporting each other and getting support from the wonderful communities we visited. The 2015 Atlanta 3-Day is now history! We raised over $2.2 Million to help fund Susan G Komen's programs of education, research, treatment and assistance for those affected by breast cancer. WOW! And did I mention the hills? I was told that the Atlanta walk had a lot of hills, but I never dreamed that we would be walking uphill and downhill about 90% of the time (well, maybe not 90%, but a lot!) But it was a fantastic weekend, perfect weather and just an all around great time. Thanks to everyone who helped - from training, to donations, to prayers, and good wishes. I am looking forward to next year when I will be hitting the streets of Philadelphia, PA. (Which I understand makes Atlanta seem like the flatlands - oh my aching knees!)
We were barely home from Atlanta, and we set up our tent in Fairborn for the Halloween Festival! This is one we really look forward to - so many great costumes and characters to see, and friends to connect with. Friday night was great - chilly but dry. Saturday, not so much. Trick or treating started around 5:00 which, as it happens, was when the rain started. We felt so bad for the kids, and their parents. So many stuck it out, so did we. But around 7:30 or so, the rain really took over and by 8:00 the only folks around were those waiting to be in the Zombie Walk; so most of the vendors, including Kathy's Pink Goal, gave up and packed up. We really hated to leave, but couldn't risk getting our merchandise ruined by the rain. All in all, it was a good weekend. Good sales, and lots of donations in the jar. We have to say, we have never seen the jar getting this full so early. Can't wait to see what is in it by next summer.
Oh, and I mentioned that I am walking in Philadelphia next year, I forgot to say that it will be a special year for me. I will be celebrating my 60th birthday in June, and in October I will be walking 60 miles! So I started a team: 60 at 60! Hoping other folks in my age group will join me in marking this special year! I have set my goal for the 2016 walk at $6000! See a pattern? With your help, I'll make it.
Upcoming events: Nov 1 - Springfield High School, Nov 7 - Ascension School, Nov 21 - Fairmont High School, Dec 5 - St Helen School.
And finally, very excited to announce that we will be at the Dayton Demolition Hockey Team's Pink on the Rink night on Feb 21 and also at the Dayton Home and Garden Show on March 18-21!
Well, that's about it - See you soon- Take Care!
